The art of mindfulness is about mastering the ability to change or modify our habitual thought patterns or processes as soon as we identify that they’re no longer serving us or others.
Our thoughts can blind us. They become stories in our minds which can often be proved as untrue and inaccurate.
Many stories and judgments we make are made to please our emotional reactions and satisfy our desire to understand.
Yet...these stories and judgements rarely reflect any truth. They rarely serve us or others.
The solution? Learning to become mindful of your thoughts. Mindfulness doesn’t stop a thought (since that would be impossible). It does help us determine what type of thinking we accept and what type of thinking we deem as unhelpful and therefore let go of.
Here’s an exercise to evaluate the quality of your thought(s):
1️⃣Where does this thought come from?
2️⃣Where will these thoughts lead me?
3️⃣Is this thought guaranteed as true?
4️⃣Will these thoughts build me up or tear me down?
5️⃣Do these thoughts make me feel guilty?
6️⃣Do these thoughts show me as a mature and balanced individual?
Practice this exercise often if you want to determine the quality of your thoughts.
Remember, you are not your thoughts. You are so much more. You are worthy. You are loved. You have been blessed with this life and you have a purpose.
